In case you use an email with your very own personal domain instead of a 3rd-party one, you will be able to use an email app such as Apple Mail, Outlook or Thunderbird to check and manage your mailboxes. The benefit of using such apps is that they also offer other features, such as address books and calendars. There are two email protocols that you can select from when you configure the application of your choosing to access your email account – POP3 and IMAP. With the first protocol, all email messages that are received will be downloaded on your device – desktop or mobile, unless you decide to keep a copy on the email server. With the second protocol, the email messages will be displayed locally at your end, but they will remain on the server all the time, so you can set up the account on numerous devices and view the email messages from any place. You will also be able to view old emails in case there’s a problem with your Internet connection, which is an advantage over a web-based email service.
