IP Blocking
What's IP blocking and what does it mean for site visitors? When is it useful?
In case you notice a large increase in the traffic to your website and in case after you examine the visitor stats it turns out that it comes from locations all over the world or from other web servers, your site is probably being attacked by an automatic bot. Such programs go through random sites seeking to log in to their administrator area by using a brute-force attack or to leave spam comments underneath any article where this type of an option is available. Regrettably, that's something rather common these days, but if you know the IP addresses through which the attacks come, you may block them, so the bots shall not be able to access your website in any way. Certainly, you are able to block IPs even if you allow only people from specific countries to access your site.

IP Blocking in Shared Hosting
If you purchase a
shared service from our company, you shall be able to see detailed traffic statistics for all of your websites and if you notice that many of the visits to each of them are not legitimate, you may block the IP addresses that have produced the most traffic by using our IP Blocking tool. The interface is quite simple - choose the needed domain or subdomain from a drop-down list, then type in the IP address that you'd like to block and save the change. All the addresses that you've blacklisted shall appear in the very same section of the Control Panel, so that you can always remove any of them and permit it to access your Internet site again. You can block entire IP ranges via the tool as well - you simply need to leave 1 or 2 octets from the address blank. For instance, entering 1.2.3. will block all 254 IPs from 1.2.3.1 to 1.2.3.255.

IP Blocking in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you host your Internet sites in a
semi-dedicated server account with our company and you wish to block one or a few IP addresses eventually, you could use the easy-to-use blocking tool, that we've supplied with our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With only a couple of mouse clicks, you will be able to block individual IPs or entire ranges, if necessary. All you will need to do is pick out any of your domains or subdomains from a drop-down menu, decide if the blocking must be valid for the root folder or for a subfolder that's part of the site, and then type in the IP address that you'd like to block. For an IP range, you just have to omit the last octet or the last two octets of the address with regards to the size of the network that you want to block. All the addresses that you have restricted will be listed within the exact same section and if you want to whitelist any of them, you'll be able to do it with only a mouse click anytime.
